Course in Agriculture


General Characteristics of the Course

The course in Agronomy extends for 4.5 years and is given in Buenos Aires at the Junin and Carlos Casares offices (to 3rd Year). It consists of two cycles:

  • General and Basic Cycle, of two years, providing solid education in basic concepts; it includes the subjects corresponding to the Common Basic Cycle (CBC), the contents of which have been adapted to this course.
  • Professional Cycle, of two and a half years, which focuses on the specific professional training. It is completed by an Intensification Cycle and the presentation of a thesis.
System of Credits

The course is structured according to a credit awarding system. A specific amount of credits corresponds to each course or workshop which are being added throughout the career. Each credit is equivalent to 16 hs. and students are able to attend up to 12.5 each bimonthly period. To obtain the degree of Agrarian Engineer, students must reach 179.5 credits.

Aim

The course in Agronomy is aimed at providing professionals with solid scientific and technological knowledge to intervene in agronomy-based production chains, the academic activity, environment issues and the preservation of natural resources from an integral and sustainable standpoint; in a social and financial context of diverse levels of innovation and uncertainty.

Working Possibilities

Agrarian Engineers may develop their careers in any of the following fields:

  • Production: at agrarian establishments, companies and organizations.
  • Academy: teaching and research.
  • Public agencies and NGOs: drafting and management of public policies and rural development and production programs in diverse regions.
  • Social: inter-disciplinary and community projects intended to meet the society's requirements.

Intensification Cycle

This Cycle, which is completed during the first quarter of the last year, marks the end of the Course in Agronomy and leads to the degree. It includes compulsory activities and lectures (equivalent to 8 credits), an Intensification Paper (thesis), and other complementary activities including the participation in conferences, seminars, internships and study trips. Students must select a UBA Faculty member as their Intensification Cycle Director who will guide them in the organizing their Intensification Plan and direct their thesis. The Cycle totals 13.5 credits.
